Kanyashree Prakalpa

Conditional cash transfer scheme to keep girls in school and prevent child marriage. Provides annual scholarship and a one-time grant at age 18.

Kanyashree Prakalpa is a flagship conditional cash transfer scheme of the Government of West Bengal aimed at improving the status and well-being of girls, specifically those from disadvantaged families, by incentivising schooling and delaying marriage.

Key Features

  • Annual scholarship of ₹1,000 per year to eligible girl students (K1 component)
  • One-time grant of ₹25,000 at age 18 for unmarried girls (K2 component)
  • Targets girls aged 13–18 years enrolled in class VIII or above
  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to bank / post office account

Objective

To reduce school drop-out among girls and prevent child marriage by providing financial support conditional on education and unmarried status.
